Advisory groups

Expert Advisory Groups (EAG)

EAGs are project-specific multi-stakeholder bodies that provide advice throughout the development of specific projects. EAGs are appointed by the project lead for the duration of a project. The scope of EAGs is limited to the project for which they are created. EAGs serve in an advisory capacity and  are not decision-making bodies.

In the Technical Workplan table you can see each standard project which has convened an expert advisory group.

Expert Working Groups (EWG)

The SBTi convened five expert working groups (EWGs) to support the revision of the Corporate Net-Zero Standard.

The EWGs brings together subject-matter experts from across business, civil society and academia to provide in-depth input on key topics. These groups focus on five key themes that are critical to businesses setting effective, practical and ambitious targets:

  • Scope 2: Addressing emissions from purchased or acquired electricity to ensure effective decarbonization.
  • Scope 3: Target-setting approaches, strategies and interventions for addressing scope 3 emissions.
  • Removals: Neutralization and Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR), particularly regarding removals targets.
  • Ongoing emissions and BVCM: Addressing ongoing emissions in the transition to net-zero through Beyond Value Chain Mitigation (BVCM) activities, including the scale of action and allowable measures.
  • Data quality, data assurance and claims: Data quality and assurance and substantiation of claims.

Technical Advisory Group (TAG)

The TAG was an advisory body composed of experts with in-depth knowledge of climate change mitigation and science-based target setting. It provided advice throughout the development or revision of SBTi technical outputs, such as standards and guidance documents). TAG members brought diverse perspectives from business, academia, government, non-profit and multilateral organizations. Members were appointed for a fixed-term of two years. The group served in an advisory capacity and was not a decision-making body. The scope of the TAG spanned all technical developments for which an ad-hoc Expert Advisory Group had not been created. For more information, see the Terms of Reference for the TAG.

Scientific Advisory Group (SAG)

The SAG was an advisory body comprised of experts from the scientific community specialized in climate science and climate change mitigation. The SAG provided advice to ensure the robustness of the pathways and methods that underpin science-based target-setting. The group served in an advisory capacity and was not a decision-making body. For more information, see the SAG Terms of Reference.
